Maui’s probably one of those places where you’re in amazement the whole time you’re here. Whether is be because of its beautiful beaches, sick looking sunsets, or if your just in it for the ladies. You can find all those and more in Maui. So if you ever get the chance to visit Maui, jump on it because you’ll never regret it. Lucky for us we live here and get to experience all these things on a daily basis; but as with everything, when you have it for so long you start to take it for granted. I know I do. All I really talk about is how boring it is here, and how I cant wait to leave. So yeah some of that true and I even typed up the whole first page to this thing talking about how much I dislike Maui. But then when I need to start writing some more about Maui I kind of thought about what Maui’s really all about and it brought me to think of how lucky I am to live in such a place that’s so relaxed and beautiful. Don’t get me wrong though I’m still kind of sick of it, I guess you could say me and Maui have a love hate relationship.
Well let’s start focusing our attention towards to skateboarding aspect of Maui. For starters, the skate scene out here is fairly petite. Unless is some little skater rat kid everyone pretty much knows everyone and were all good friends. Which is actually nice because I can hit up our skate park on any given day and there will be a few of my homies there and we can have ourselves a nice little session. Also since it being a small skate scene it frees up the parks which it extremely good because you’re not weaving in and out of people. I skated a park in Phoenix not to long ago and it was crazy how many people there were there. I couldn’t take it because I had never had to deal with that before.
Well if you start getting bored with the parks, which can happen fairly fast we have a good amount of spots. They sure aren’t any Barcelona spots but there different and they haven’t been in every magazine, and certainly haven’t been killed by thousands of people. But best of all you don’t have to drive hours in traffic just to get there. Back before I had my license we would get dropped off at one place where we all met up. From there we would just start skating down the line hitting everyone one of our spots. Make a pit stop and Jack In The Box and keep going all the way till we ended up at the skate park. Things have changed since I gotten a car but we sure don’t have to sit in traffic. Just when you think it couldn’t get any better it does.
Since living in such a relaxed place majority of the people are laid back. Yeah that’s including the cops. One time we were skating a spot and 2 cop cars rolled up. He told us he had to kick us out but because someone called the cops on us, but that wasn’t before he wanted to see our footage and was all stoked on it. I guess things like that just don’t happen everywhere.
If you really feel like you want to visit then by all means do it. Save up money go with some friends, take a family vacation, whatever it is just get over here because it’s one of the best places in the world. Visit the beaches; go to a luau, whatever. Just don’t forget to visit 180 Board Shop, the best skate shop on Maui.
Aloha.
