In an effort to explore a more positive editorial path, we decided we should ask some of skateboarding’s great thinkers about the emotion of love. What could be more positive than love? We asked the question, is there such a thing as true love? Read on:

I’ve never really been in love so I don’t really know if I believe that there is such a thing as true love. At this particular point in my life I don’t believe in true love. I’ve had girlfriends but I’ve never really been in love with them. I think that I am just too young to fall in love. You’ll know when you are in love.  I’ve never really had that. So I don’t really know. I’ve never been that psyched enough on a chick where I was like, “Damn I love her. I’d like to make love to her but I don’t love her.” I’m not sure what love is, it’s probably just like chemistry or something. Sometimes I’ll see a younger girl with an older man and the dude looks pretty well off and I wonder if the chick is really in love with the dude or if she is just doing it because he has money. Women really like money, comfort, and security with a guy, so love is probably a security thing. Maybe they are with that person waiting for the next best person to come along. For the men, they are with women because it’s cool to come home to nice home-cooked meal. They are benefited by what the girl can do for them. Like cook for them and clean for them, have kids. There is no such thing as real love, it’s a comfort thing.

I would say true love is real. It is just a matter of if you are looking for it and want it. You’ve got to make it happen. I’m just not going to make it happen.  I’m not exactly a fan of being in love. I guess I’m going to be in love one day. I’ve not really ever been in love. The only thing I’ve been in love with is my skateboard. That is the thing that I love the most in the whole world. I don’t think that I could ever love a chick more than my skateboard. Skateboarding has treated me right. I don’t believe in love at first sight, you need to wait and figure it out and see what people are really like. I don’t trust judging someone just by looks. I think that Jamie Thomas and his wife are a good example. He is 100% faithful and he’s got two kids and his wife makes him happier than he has ever been. You can tell just by looking at his face when he sees his kids. It makes me look forward to feeling something like that.

I do believe in true love. I have true love with my wife. We’ve been together for over ten years. With being married it’s kind of a give and take kind of thing. You have to put up with each other. If I were to die, knock on wood, someone else may come along, and I definitely don’t have a problem with that because I’ll be gone and she’s basically going to need some loving. It’s hard to put love into words. You have to make it work. You have to work at it; you have to refresh it by doing things you might not normally do. You may go to the movies but maybe you want to go to a play instead, or travel somewhere together.

I think love is real. It happened in that movie True Romance with Patricia Arquette. It happened to them. When I see it in a movie it looks pretty bad assed. I just broke up with a girl of three years. We were in love and everything was going good and I was just kind of over it. It’s fun for a while then you kind of get over it and you want to move on.  It gets boring. I don’t know if that is “Love” but it is some kind of emotion. I’m not really a rocket scientist over here but I think if you have feelings for somebody obviously those feelings could be love and it is more than just “Digging” them. I look at my parents, they have been together for 35 years and they still seem pretty happy. Most people wouldn’t want to deal with the same human being for over 35 years.  I’ve been in love with a chick and it didn’t work out but there are a million other ones out there. If you get dumped by a hot chick, you can find a hotter one that has even more talents. I’m sure you could find another one that is just as good if not better than the last one. Why not fall in love again?

Hell ya I believe in true love. It’s definitely hard to explain. I know that I love skateboarding. I know it’s not lust. As far as romantic love, it’s real. I have a girlfriend that I’m in love with. I don’t really believe in love at first sight or anything. You just know when you are in love. I want it to last the rest of my life. I’ve known her for like five years and we’ve really gotten deep in the last 6 months. I’ve been with other girls but this one is different. I’ve never felt this way before, it’s for sure true love.

I guess I believe in true love but I don’t necessarily think that there is just one person out there for everyone. The way I see it love is more than just being more than content with spending the rest of your life with somebody. I don’t know if I believe in love at first sight but when I was a little kid I saw a Budweiser can and fell in love with beer. If it feels like nothing you’ve ever felt before and you’re old enough to realize you aren’t retarded then I think that would be what true love is. There should be more than just a fixation, too many people get caught up on marrying for money or for comfort or because they knocked someone up. You better believe that if I don’t find true love I’m going to marry the first fucking rich bitch I find.

Of course I believe in true love. For sure, I’ve been in love. Love is hard to explain, some say it is a chemical reaction in the brain but I think that it is more than that actually. I’d like to think that it is spiritual but I’m really not that spiritual. It’s definitely something deeper. There is something more to it that I can’t figure out. What’s the point of being in love if you can figure it out? The best thing about life is the mystery. If we knew all the answers than it wouldn’t even be worth living.
